New Strategic Pact Set to Transform eCommerce Logistics in the Kingdom

In a monumental stride towards enhancing cross-border eCommerce operation fulfillment in the Gulf, Maersk Saudi Arabia and Saudi Post Company (SPL) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance international logistics and supply chain services for Companies who are in the process of doing business or entering business in Saudi Arabia. This collaboration is primed to add tremendous value to global eCommerce companies looking at the Kingdom and wider GCC region.

Unlocking End-to-End eCommerce Logistics

The partnership seamlessly combines SPL’s vast domestic delivery network with Maersk’s globally recognized logistics infrastructure. The collaboration can deliver a successful and integrated logistics ecosystem that builds end-to-end from international shipping to customs clearance to the last mile delivery, suitable for the rapidly evolving eCommerce sector.

Director of Maersk Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Al Olaby noted the value proposition of the partnership: “We are very pleased to be working with Saudi Post, as there is no distribution network that can compete with their in-Kingdom presence. The capability brought together with Maersk’s integrated logistics park in Jeddah will now enable businesses looking to expand across the region to provide world-class fulfilment solutions to their customers.”

Advancing Regional Connectivity and Growth

SPL Group’s International Business Sales Director, Rouni Saad, discussed the wider strategic implications: “This formal partnership is critical for developing and improving cross-border eCommerce flows, increasing reliability and allowing greater trade opportunities in the region across the GCC.”

With this agreement, Maersk will manage the origin services, international transport, and the bonded warehousing through the new Integrated Logistics Park in Jeddah and Saudi Post will manage all in-country operations including express customs clearance, and final mile delivery. This total split of integration provides a comprehensive logistics solution that enables scalability, efficiency, and speed to global retailers.

Four pillars of cooperation

The mou outlines areas of cooperation in four areas of importance:

  • Technology Integration – Aligned digital systems to deliver end-to-end visibility for the supply chain
  • Joint Commercial Strategy – Aligned go-to-market and coordination with international customers
  • Customer Service Excellence – Aligned processes to hand over to customers effectively and seamlessly.
  • Operational Efficiencies – Aligned capacity and resource to deliver response to growing logistics needs

Making Vision 2030 a reality

The collaboration directly supports the vision set by Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy to develop the Kingdom into a global logistics hub. The collaboration will not only involve international trade with refreshed and broader eCommerce support services, but it will also elevate Saudi Arabia’s reputation as the gateway for businesses looking to enter Middle Eastern markets.

The agreement articulates the priorities of Maersk and SPL around innovation, scalability, and customer centric solutions making Saudi Arabia a more accessible and attractive destination for International eCommerce businesses.
